Hetzner vs Vultr

OFFICIAL-SOURCE COMPARISON

Compare Hetzner Cloud and Vultr by the location, resource commitment and recovery process your application needs. A useful shortlist starts with deployment eligibility and a complete quote, not a universal lowest-price or fastest-server claim. We have not purchased or benchmarked the plans discussed here.

Start with the deployment location

Check Hetzner’s location and feature matrix against Vultr’s region directory. Then verify availability of the exact compute product. Do not assume a region directory establishes that every plan can be provisioned there. If a required location eliminates one provider, that is a workload constraint rather than a performance ranking.

When Hetzner belongs on your shortlist

Consider Hetzner when the exact server type is available in a suitable location and its complete quote fits your budget. Its billing FAQ states that Primary IPs and servers are billed separately. Include the selected address configuration rather than comparing a server-only price against an all-in quote. A lower quoted cost for your configuration would be a purchasing advantage, not proof of higher reliability.

When Vultr belongs on your shortlist

Consider Vultr when a suitable compute product is available in a location that meets your requirements. Its documentation separates shared CPU from dedicated compute families. Match the actual CPU commitment before comparing prices with a Hetzner server. Use deployment availability to narrow the list and test the application path from relevant users before making a latency claim.

A recovery difference worth checking

Hetzner describes backups and snapshots as copies of a server’s disk. Its Volumes documentation says that backups and snapshots are not provided for Volumes. Vultr’s backup FAQ limits automatic backups to the active file system of the instance. For either provider, inventory database files, local disks and separately attached storage. Obtain a recovery procedure for each data location instead of assuming the instance image protects the whole application.

Set an acceptable recovery time and data-loss window. Keep an independent copy of irreplaceable data, document who performs a restore and trial the process before migration. These are buying checks, not claims that we have already carried out a restore on either platform.

Get comparable quotes

Record region, CPU family, memory, disk and included transfer. Add addresses, backups, additional storage, transfer overages, tax and operating support. Use one currency and the same billing period. Our cost calculator adds your recurring inputs; it does not convert currencies or obtain a provider quote. Pricing is subject to change. Check current prices and terms before buying.

FAQ

Which provider should I choose?

Reject options that fail a required region, resource commitment or recovery capability. Compare complete costs and operating effort among the remaining equivalent configurations.

Can I compare performance from the listed vCPU count?

No. CPU commitment, hardware, workload and region matter. This article includes no measured performance winner.
