Match infrastructure to the application

Starting points to validate against your actual workload
ScenarioStarting categoryKey check
Business website or WordPressShared or managed web hostingApplication updates, backups and usable support
WooCommerceStore-compatible web hosting or an operated VPSCheckout, scheduled jobs, plugins and database recovery
n8n automationSelf-hosted VPS or a hosted application serviceFull stack, workflow concurrency and credentials recovery
Docker or custom SaaSVPS or managed application platformRuntime architecture, persistent data and deployment rollback
Global websiteHosting near primary users and dependenciesDynamic request paths, delivery and data-location requirements

These are editorial starting points. If a platform already hosts your storefront, identify what separate application actually needs infrastructure before buying a VPS.

Turn the scenario into a purchase checklist

List the application, database, background workers and external services. Assign owners for updates, access and restoration. Define what data must survive a failed deployment, then test a representative workload. Use the cost calculator to add recurring infrastructure and management costs.

For website compatibility, use WordPress requirements and WooCommerce server recommendations. For containers, Docker documents volumes for persistent data. These references explain components and requirements, not a guaranteed traffic capacity.

Workload questions

Should every small business buy a VPS?

Choose the service that meets the application and support needs. A business without a server operator should compare managed services and their exact scope before taking on a VPS.

Does Docker remove server administration?

Containers do not assign responsibility for host updates, access controls or recovery. Plan persistent storage and backup restoration alongside deployment.

Can visitor count determine a hosting plan?

Visitor count alone cannot describe checkout work, database queries, payloads or workflow concurrency. Measure representative application paths and upgrade based on the observed bottleneck.
